THE EXPERIENCE

Why elope in newfoundland?
Newfoundland is one of the most rugged and raw terrains in North America and beyond. It’s moody, whimsical, is filled with the force of nature and being able to take all of that in while sharing an intimate, raw and real moment with your partner is extra special.
Eloping tends to work best for adventurous couples who like the idea of breaking from tradition, embracing the unknown and letting their story unfold without micro-planning. Elopements take the stress off of wedding planning, but they still require a few logistics – that’s where we come in! We take the question marks out of the process, and create a framework where you can make your day your own, whether it’s tying the knot overlooking the ocean, getting married in an intimate venue, or sitting in front of a bonfire and signing your weddings docs.
Eloping should be easy so you can let go and enjoy the adventure together.
WHAT TO EXPECT
the key parts of your elopement
THE LOCATION
Choosing an elopement location in Newfoundland is a breeze because the area offers so much natural beauty.
We recommend deciding on the type of backdrop you’d like, such as rocky cliffs/ocean, beach, viewpoints, treed areas, lakes, urban environments/character spaces, interiors. We can then help you pare down the options based on that.
We travel within 30 minutes of St. John’s for most elopement packages, however we’re always up for an adventure elsewhere – travel costs may apply.
THE PRIORITIES
It’s easy to fall into the trap of making a wedding or elopement a checklist. We like to encourage couples to really consider what parts of a wedding are important to them, what would make them feel more intentional, what parts truly matter down the road.
No two couples are the same with their priorities. Some come dressed super casually and bring along craft beer to celebrate, while others get decked out to the nines in gowns and suits with hair and makeup done. There’s no right or wrong way to show up to elope in Newfoundland, besides perhaps bringing a raincoat/windbreaker just in case.
CONNECTING
Couples plan a ton of details for weddings but always see the vows as an afterthought. Something that gets written the night before or morning of, and is scribbled on a piece of hotel paper. That’s fine and dandy if that’s your vibe, but we recommend thinking about this really intentionally.
What is going to show your partner you’re appreciative and grateful for them? What vows might be personal to you and your circumstances? What memories would you like to bring into the mix to reconnect and remember together – whether it’s fun times or challenges you’ve overcome.
Every ceremony leaves space for personal vows and a ring exchange, but there are other ways to connect with intention as well. Consider an oathing ceremony, a hand fasting ceremony or a way to involve any of your guests or witnesses. The possibilities for connection are endless and the more connected, the better the photos!
THE MEMORIES
Your photos are something that will bring you back to this special and intimate date for years and years to come. Our approach is documentary style/candid for the ceremony, and lightly posed and prompted for your portraits. We can go on a hike together for the photos, go for coffee or a treat, whatever floats your boat.
Your photos will be delivered in high resolution in an online gallery that you can share with family and friends, with a good sized sneak peek within 48 hours. We know you’ll be eager to re-live the day and share with those you love. Photos are true to colour but lightly stylized to bring out the raw beauty of Newfoundland.

HAVE questions?
01.
When is the best time to Elope in Newfoundland?
If you’re from NL, you know the weather can be unpredictable. Because of this I believe that a lot of the year is fair game with the right preparation. If you want to try to avoid cold, May-Oct is the sweet spot. If you don’t mind a crisp winter day or want to embrace rain drizzle and fog, I’d say March-December could be fair game. (My elopement involved an ice rain storm, so I’m up for just about anything). I’d avoid the peak of winter as it can get tangly on the east coast, and if you pick peak summer, be prepared for tourists and other people to be around.
02.
What do we need to do before the elopement?
You’ll need to obtain your marriage license and you and your partner will need to fill out the forms. Consider whether you’d like anything additional, like florals, champagne, dinner plans, etc. We can help with this, as many of our couples travel to Newfoundland from elsewhere for their elopement. And if you’re traveling, finding somewhere to stay and renting a vehicle are important (bonus if you rent a place that acts as a backup weather plan to tie the knot!). Renting a car in NL can be very costly in peak season. Planning in advance is recommended.
03.
What’s included in our package?
All packages include the photography & the ceremony/officiant. Some packages include florals, bubbly, and add ons are available if you’d rather have us take care of any logistics.
You will need to pay $100 for your marriage license when you pick it up from a license issuer. We will send you info on all of this so you know exactly where to go and what to bring.
04.
What if we need witnesses?
Witnesses can be provided for an additional fee to cover their time and travel.
05.
Do you travel outside of St. John’s or Newfoundland?
Yes! For travel elopements, we recommend booking photo only as we won’t have connections with local vendors like we do locally in St. John’s or Newfoundland. Let us know if you’d like to see our photo only elopement packages.
06.
How long will it take to receive our photos after the event?
Elopements are whimsical and often really exciting to announce. We deliver sneak peeks within 48 hours of your elopement, and the final images are delivered between 4-12 weeks depending on seasonal workload.
